Super-Kamiokande observes the first beam neutrino event candidate.

Physicists from the Japanese-led multi-national T2K neutrino collaboration announce on February 24th that he first beam neutrino event candidate has been observed. It is a clear 3-ring Fully Contained event in the fiducial volume.

The figure shows the event display of the candidate. The invariant mass of the first and second rings is 133.8 MeV/c2, close to the π0 mass. Its momentum is 148.3 MeV/c2.
